As part of the ongoing youTalk-insurance campaign to share inspiring short stories and articles aimed recognising the positive impact that insurance businesses and their employees are making during the Coronavirus Crisis throughout the United Kingdom, we are delighted to showcase Matt Field, Head of Marketing and Development at Direct Insurance London Market.

Matt has recently answered the call and has become an NHS volunteer.

Q: Matt what inspired you to volunteer for the NHS

From the minute our Group CEO circulated an e-mail to all staff, offering significant support to help everyone adapt to remote working, it struck a chord with me that in difficult times, solidarity will see us through.

The thing which makes our Industry great is the people (I’d be lying if I said it was the subject matter) and I know how much the industry does each year to help those less fortunate

Thinking more in my own personal life, the minute Boris gave his rallying cry that the country needed 250,000 volunteers, I registered to volunteer without hesitation.

I have a 96-year-old Grandad, who whilst able to get out and do his own shopping under normal circumstances, is sensibly not doing so currently.

There are plenty of elderly people in the same boat and whilst I’m able to go to the shops taking the right precautions, I feel it’s our duty to support the community around us and help those in need, be that by shopping for them, collecting prescriptions or maybe just being on the end of a phone for a chat during periods of loneliness. It’s testament to our nation that when called upon, the applications to volunteer exceeded 750,000, 3 times the number required, this makes me proud to be British.

Matt Field – We Salute You
