Third annual event celebrates the insurance industry’s collective impact on local communities

The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF), the non-profit organisation that unites the insurance industry in helping local communities through grants, volunteer service and leadership, held its third annual Charity Ball, raising over £125,000 for charities championing education and social mobility.

The most important fundraising event of the year for the charity was held in the historic surroundings of Merchant Taylor’s Hall on June 21st, 2018 to celebrate the industry’s impact in the community and to raise valuable funds for future grants. Funds raised to-date have allowed IICF, together with the Industry, to help over 900 vulnerable people across the country.

The evening featured speakers including Eilene Castolene, Director of Operations at Chubb and Rob Owen, OBE and CEO of St Giles Trust, one of the grant recipients of the IICF and an award-winning charity that supports people with complex and challenging needs. Rob, together with his colleagues told powerful stories about the people they support through their peer-led service who are facing issues of abuse, debt and homelessness, and who are unable to find help elsewhere.

At the event, David Brosnan, CEO of CNA Hardy and Chair of the UK Board of the IICF, presented the inaugural ‘Above & Beyond’ awards, specifically designed to reward Associate Board members who have made an outstanding contribution as young professionals to the IICF. This year, the awards went to James Godwin from KPMG and Bobbie Mansfield from XL Catlin.

The annual ball coincides with the IICF UK’s third anniversary. In just three years, IICF UK has grown from 14 to 30 Executive and Associate Board companies and has convened over 400 industry professionals to share ideas and best practice on CSR, innovation and leadership. Most importantly, IICF UK has raised nearly £350,000 to help disadvantaged people across the country excel at school, enter employment and make a new start in life.

“We are pleased to see our fundraising efforts and support for IICF continue to grow. The Ball is a special event that brings to life our unique role in the Industry – creating new ways for employees to work together for a greater good and connecting companies in Insurance with local charities to drive social change, amplify the Industry’s impact and deliver positive business results,” commented Wendy Wilder, Executive Director of the IICF UK.
