BHIB has launched a new online broker firm specifically for the creative freelance industry – from photographers to script writers and makeup artists to camera assistants.

Based from BHIB’s Leicester offices, Create Insurance is led by Ajay Mistry (pictured) who has brought in a new team of former freelancers and marketing experts to design and build this new offering from scratch.

“Using our own software house, Brokertech, means we have designed and built exactly what we wanted,” commented Mistry (Partnerships Director for BHIB and Create) on last week’s launch.

“It also means we can really speedily change and evolve Create to suit the evolving needs of our customers.”

The service will allow customers to choose the appropriate levels of cover for their equipment, their work, and themselves where general insurance policies are underwritten by Hiscox, and life insurance and income protection options are provided by Vitality.

Mistry continued, “We’ve launched something new and exciting to help creative freelancers buy the insurance they need. We’ve married BHIB’s wealth of insurance broking expertise, with a team of freelancers to build a fresh and flexible service.

“The creative freelance economy is diverse and growing rapidly as more people than ever make the shift away from traditional ways of working. This can be daunting enough and we know they need a simple and straightforward way to buy the cover they need, how they want, and when they want it.

“Customers can buy short-term as well as annual policies and will have access to easy online claims reporting. They will also benefit from a 24/7 legal helpline, UK, EU or worldwide cover, and free HR tools among other benefits.

Mark Plews, Head of Schemes at Hiscox UK, commented:

“As a specialist insurer we are always looking for ways to bring our underwriting expertise to different markets. The flexible approach to insurance that this provides meets the unique needs of freelancers well, and we are excited to be working with Create on such a distinctive proposition.”

Andy Philo, Director of Strategic Partnerships at Vitality, said:

“One of the benefits many freelancers have is greater control over when you work and where, but this can also mean it’s hard to create a routine and build in physical activity.

“Alongside providing award winning life insurance that protects you and your family, Vitality members also get access to our Vitality Programme which incentivises and rewards healthy behaviour. We believe this unique offering will not only help Create’s customers’ live healthier lives, but also feel more financially secure.”
