MAPFRE, which is taking many actions to protect people, the economy, and jobs, and to help society overcome the current COVID-19 crisis, is allocating 54 million euros to support customers and suppliers. This is in addition to 5 million euros recently donated to accelerate COVID-19 research in Spain.

This action is announced within the framework of MAPFRE’s strategy against COVID-19, based on three lines of action: protect people, safeguard economic activity, especially employment, and help society to overcome the impact in the medium and longer term.

At this time, more than 90% of MAPFRE’s 34,000 employees worldwide are working remotely to reduce the risk of contagion and to guarantee service to customers, who in Spain are being offered a free advisory service to learn how they can take advantage of the support that is on offer.

With nearly 7 million customers in Spain, MAPFRE will return 30 million euros to its self-employed and SME customers, being the part of their insurance premiums that correspond to the time that the current Spanish state of alarm is in force.

MAPFRE will also allocate up to 24 million euros to billing advances for its suppliers. The measure tries to help alleviate the economic difficulties caused by the stoppage of activity for professionals who regularly collaborate with the company, due to COVID-19.

"We want to support all the professionals who work with us, who serve our customers, and strive every day to ensure that MAPFRE's service is of the highest quality. Now is the time to support them, because they are also an essential part of our value chain,” said Antonio Huertas, Chairman and CEO of MAPFRE.

These funds are in addition to 5 million euros made through Fundación MAPFRE to the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) to accelerate virus research in Spain, especially COVID-19, plus 20 million euros for personal protection and medical equipment, including ventilators, for healthcare authorities in 27 countries, mainly in LatAm, and 10 million euro to protect employment and for psychological support in Spain.
