Leading insurance charities ask profession to act on Dementia

Dementia-Friends-online-information-session

Dementia is a global challenge affecting millions of lives every year. To raise awareness about dementia, Insurance United Against Dementia (IUAD) and the Insurance Charities are hosting an upcoming free online Dementia Friends information session, in partnership with Alzheimer’s Society. The session will take place on June 22nd, during Insurance Charities Awareness Week.

Dementia Friends is the biggest ever initiative to transform how the nation thinks, acts and talks about dementia. We urgently need to create a climate of kindness and understanding, so that everyone affected by dementia feels part of, not apart from, society. Becoming a Dementia Friend simply means finding out more about how dementia affects a person – and then, armed with this understanding, doing small everyday things that help.

The online session will be facilitated by Alzheimer's Society, ensuring attendees gain valuable insights and knowledge about dementia. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in discussions, ask questions, and receive practical advice on how to support individuals living with dementia and reduce stigma associated with the condition.

The Insurance Charities and Alzheimer’s Society have been working in partnership since 2018 to offer practical support to those who have been affected by dementia, as well as offering volunteering opportunities to the insurance community. While not only working to raise considerable funds for people living with dementia, IUAD has been raising awareness of dementia with insurance colleagues, since it launched in 2017.

By teaming up with the Insurance Charities and IUAD, to offer this session to all across insurance, the ambition is to reach a broader audience and foster a collective effort in understanding and addressing dementia-related challenges.

Jo Coles, Sales and Client Management at WTW and IUAD Board member added, “As an advocate for dementia awareness, I cannot stress enough the significance of the Dementia friend’s initiative. It has been a resounding success, fostering understanding and compassion for those living with dementia. The best part is that anyone can become a Dementia Friend, and it’s absolutely free. With sessions being delivered online like this next one in June, it makes the opportunity easily accessible for everyone.”

The session which is free to attend is scheduled for June 22nd (12-1pm), is a fantastic opportunity for individuals to learn more about dementia and how they can make a positive difference.
