Insurance led campaign hits £8 million fundraising mark for people living with dementia

Insurance United Against Dementia (IUAD), led by leaders from across the insurance industry, announced that it has now raised over £8million towards Alzheimer’s Society’s crucial work.

Established in 2017 in partnership with the charity, IUAD has successfully mobilized the insurance industry, with money raised going towards pioneering dementia research and life-changing support services to help improve the lives of the 900,000 people with a dementia diagnosis in the UK today.

Over the last 12 months, IUAD has achieved one of its most successful years of fundraising to date. This is largely due to significant support from firms across markets, individual contributions, and the collective effort of the industry through events, including the Insurance Day of Giving (IDOG).

Richard Dudley, Head of Climate Strategy at Aon and Chair of IUAD, said: “We are truly delighted to have reached this milestone in raising £8million for Alzheimer’s Society.

“This achievement is testament to the many colleagues who have both led and contributed to this campaign with the IUAD Board from 2017. We have seen the industry truly unite to provide help and hope for people living with dementia.

“The goal we set as a group behind IUAD was to raise £10million. Our focus now turns to how we galvanise continued and new support to help us achieve this ambitious target. We are told that there has never been a more exciting time in dementia research. We are motivated by this to help raise further funds that could lead to future breakthroughs to help improve diagnosis, slow the progression of symptoms, and provide hope for everyone living with dementia.”

The sector’s support has never been more important, with 1 in 3 people born in the UK today going on to develop dementia. Alzheimer’s Society’s services were used over 4.5 million times in 2022, proving to be a lifeline through some of the hardest and most frightening times.

Charlotte Matier, Associate Director of Fundraising at Alzheimer’s Society, added: “At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today and providing hope for the future. But we can’t do this without donations, so are grateful for the IUAD’s commitment and partnership in tackling dementia.”

Leaders from insurance will continue their impressive efforts through the IUAD campaign, to not only reach the £10million fundraising target, but to continue to raise awareness and help provide assistance to those across markets who are personally affected by dementia.
