Insurance Industry unites to take on dementia this Thursday

People across the insurance industry are gearing up for the third Insurance Day of Giving in aid of Alzheimer’s Society and the Insurance United Against Dementia (IUAD) campaign.

This Thursday 5th November 2020, firms across the industry such as Willis Towers Watson, Crawford & Company, Sedgwick, RSA and many others have signed up to take part in a day of fundraising and awareness raising activities to raise much needed funds for Alzheimer’s Society. With the COVID-19 pandemic, many firms have had to think outside the box to plan fundraising activities.

There are Zoom baking classes, industry wide Dementia Friend’s sessions, cookbooks and many more activities all being organised across the country to raise money to fund vital services and research into finding a cure.

Zurich Community Trust (ZCT), Zurich’s charitable arm in the UK, has generously offered to match pound for pound the first £25,000 raised on the day by firms and individuals across the industry.

Steve Grimmett, Head of ZCT, said, “I am delighted that ZCT will be supporting everyone’s donations to go further on the Insurance Day of Giving by matching the first £25,000 raised. Through this initiative, we are pleased to be able to support colleagues across the industry in their efforts to raise funds and make a difference. Together, we can ensure more people affected by dementia have the support they so desperately need and deserve as they navigate the ongoing pandemic.”

Crawford & Company with the support of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters has organised a ‘Loss Adjusting Mastermind’ which will see seven contestants from the UK’s biggest loss adjusting firms compete for the accolade of ‘Loss Adjusting Mastermind’. These firms are uniting to show support for this year’s Insurance Day of Giving and will be facing two rounds to raise money for people with dementia in our society.

Benedict Burke, Crawford & Company, said: “We’re really proud to be uniting some of the UK’s biggest loss adjusting firms for a fundraiser on this year’s Insurance Day of Giving. It is more important now than ever to unite as an industry and raise some much needed funds for Alzheimer’s Society to make sure no one has to face dementia alone.”

An RSA spokesperson said: “Dementia is now one of the UK’s biggest killers and affects many people, both directly or through a loved one, so we’re really pleased to support the Insurance Day of Giving. We have various activities planned for colleagues on the day, such as a virtual mindfulness & brain health session and a virtual lunch & learn session where colleagues will be sharing stories about their personal experiences involving Dementia, hopefully starting conversations and raising much needed funding for the charity, which will be matched by RSA.”

COVID-19 has had a devastating impact on people with dementia their families. People with dementia have accounted for one quarter of all COVID deaths and those who survived lockdown are now battling the trauma of months spent alone or separated from loved ones, the accelerated onset of symptoms and a loss of independence. This is why it is more important now than ever to come together for people with dementia.

There is still time for individuals and businesses to sign up for the Insurance Day of Giving. Everyone can take part and every contribution makes a real difference to the lives of people living with dementia.
