Insurance Day of Giving raises over £100,000

Last month the Insurance Day of Giving united firms across the industry in raising money for dementia research. Together, more than 60 firms raised over £100,000.

Companies took part in a range of activities, including a charity dinner at Aon, an auction of promises and Dementia Friends session at The Insurance Emporium, and a static 252 mile cycle in the Willis Towers Watson lobby.

Meanwhile the BNP Paribas Personal Finance team braved the cold, with a determined team taking on a 25 mile trek along Shakespeare’s Trail, raising £1,500.

Every penny raised through the Day of Giving is directly supporting the fight against dementia. The £100,000 raised is enough to bring together researchers at five specialist conferences throughout the year. These conferences are a vital lynchpin in the fabric of the UK Dementia Research Institute, uniting top researchers from across the country and enabling them to work in a collaborative and agile way. With teams presenting their data, and external researchers adding to the conversation, the conferences become a melting pot of ideas and inspiration that can be taken forward into their studies.

More than 60 firms contributed to this incredible outcome: The AA, ABI, Action 365, Advantage Insurance, AllClear Travel Insurance, Aon, aQmen Underwriting Services, Arc Legal Assistance, ASL Adjusting, Assured Futures, Aston Lark, Aviva, Axa, Be Wiser Insurance, BNP Paribas Personal Finance, Bollington, Bravo Group, Caspian Insurance, Chubb, The Chartered Insurance Institute, Claims Consortium Group, Cobra Network, Covéa, Crawford & Co, Cura Insurance, Deloitte, Eldon Insurance, Ensurance, Freedom Group, The Insurance Emporium, Integro, ISS, Kew Insurance Services, LV=, Miles Smith, Miller Insurance Services, PIB Group, QBE, QuestGates, ReAssure, RiverStone, Sedgwick, Stanmore Insurance Brokers, TEn Insurance, THB, The Smith & Pinching Group Limited, Tony McDonagh & Co, Touchstone, Umbrella Protect, Willis Towers Watson, and Zurich.

Aon’s charity dinner raised an incredible £36,144 through table sales, auctions, and a game of heads or tails which kicked off the event at their offices.

Richard Dudley, CEO Global Broking Centre UK, Aon, said:

“With one person in the UK developing dementia every three minutes, it’s critical that we step up and make a stand – this is what the Insurance Day of Giving is all about. I’m delighted that Aon was able to unite colleagues from across the industry for this event and overwhelmed by the incredible generosity shown. We are all too aware of the devastating impact that dementia has on families, and I’m proud that Aon could pull out all the stops to support the Day of Giving in this way.”

In Bolton, Stanmore Insurance Brokers hosted a United Against Dementia event, which featured a performance of the play ‘The Last Memory’, a Q&A with a local solicitor’s firm, and featured support services for those looking for dementia advice.

Jackie Hyde, Director, Stanmore Insurance Brokers, said:

“My dad sustained a stroke 12 years ago and in the later stages of life was diagnosed with dementia. For the last three of those years, I was his primary carer. I therefore personally understand the struggles that people with dementia and their carers face and it can be really tough. When I found out about the IUAD campaign, I knew I wanted to do something to support people in the same situation that I lived through.

“More than 50 people attended the event which also raised £4,000. I’m so proud that Stanmore and our colleagues were able to support people affected by dementia in this way. It was wonderful to have such a positive reaction to our event from those attending which made us feel we had made a difference. Also major thanks to those who donated to such an amazing charity”
