On Thursday 7th November 2019, the Insurance Day of Giving united firms across the industry in raising money for dementia research. Together, nearly 60 firms raised an astonishing £90,000, with funds still coming in from the event.

Companies took part in a range of exciting activities, including a static cycle challenge at Willis Towers Watson, gala dinner hosted by Aon and even a public performance of ‘The Last Memory’, organised by an Aviva employee.

The money raised through the Insurance Day of Giving will go directly towards the groundbreaking work taking place at the UK Dementia Research Institute.

The institute is home to 700 researchers at six universities who are pursuing new ways of caring for, and new ways of treating dementia.

On 7th November, the insurance industry raised enough to pay for an entire PhD project, enabling a talented student to research the cause, care cure and prevention of dementia.

Almost 60 firms took part in the event, including: The AA, ABI, Action 365, Advantage Insurance, AllClear Travel Insurance, Aon, aQmen Underwriting Services, Arc Legal Assistance, ASL Adjusting, Assured Futures, Aston Lark, Aviva, Axa, Be Wiser Insurance, BNP Paribas Personal Finance, Bollington, Bravo Group, Caspian Insurance, Chubb, The Chartered Insurance Institute, Claims Consortium Group, Cobra Network, Covéa, Crawford & Co, Cura Insurance, Deloitte, Eldon Insurance, Ensurance, Freedom Group, The Insurance Emporium, Integro, ISS, Kew Insurance Services, LV=, Miles Smith, Miller Insurance Services, PIB Group, QBE, QuestGates, ReAssure, RiverStone, Sedgwick, Stanmore Insurance Brokers, TEn Insurance, THB, The Smith & Pinching Group Limited, Tony McDonagh & Co, Touchstone, Umbrella Protect and Willis Towers Watson

Chris Wallace, Executive Director, Continental Europe, QBE Insurance and IUAD Chairman, said:

“When we launched the Insurance Day of Giving last year we couldn’t have imagined that the industry would take it to its heart so quickly, and with such enthusiasm. There has been an incredible response from our colleagues across the industry, raising vital awareness alongside those all-important funds that will support breakthroughs in dementia research.

“I am so grateful to everyone who took part in this year’s event – whether that’s through dress down days, bake sales, or by taking on a challenge. Every single pound helps, and together, we are showing that the insurance industry is truly a force for good.”

The Day of Giving also saw two public events take place – the first at Aviva’s Marble Hall in Norwich, which hosted dementia experts and information stands to offer support to the local community. In Bolton, Stanmore Insurance Brokers led their United Against Dementia event, which featured a performance of the play ‘The Last Memory’, included a Q&A with a local solicitor’s firm, and featured support services for those looking for dementia advice.

The Insurance Day of Giving 2020 will take place on Thursday 5 November.
