‘Our Insurance Community’. I can’t think of a better theme for the 2022 BIBA conference, that will see us descend on Manchester once more. Covid-19 didn’t stop the insurance business and it’s been an eventful two years for our market but not all relationships can fully function over Zoom, Skype or WebEx. To be part of a community means to be part of something bigger and it’s going to be fantastic to see so many people at the conference.

None of us in the insurance community will have been watching the telly over the last few days and not been deeply moved by the harrowing sounds and images coming out of Ukraine.  

I for one know that I’ve run out of superlatives to describe the horror that the Ukrainian people, ordinary people like you and me, are having to endure.

In the past five to six years, the schemes and delegated authorities’ market has seen significant growth. We estimate that schemes and delegated authorities (SDA) currently make up at least 20% of the UK’s commercial, property, casualty and motor business. With growth comes opportunities for evolution and collaboration as well as the chance to develop specialist and niche products and build new relationships.

Insurance brokers play a vital role as a trusted advisor of the insured

Yet a recent survey we undertook of commercial business owners, on average, scored their trust of their insurance broker at only 6.4. That is in fact lower than the score they gave for insurers themselves (6.9).

So why, in an industry built on a promise, is trust is no longer being built with customers?

Currently firms can claim £3,000 for new hires and access up to £21,000 for Senior Insurance Professional Level 6 training (Advanced Diploma for CII & CILA routes), but rules are set to change on 30^th September.
