BIBA 2019 - Always Leading

09 May 2019

I guess you could call any period a “time of change” but we do appear to be going through the most rapidly shifting and unpredictable periods in living memory  – and at times like these it’s relatively easy for a good broker to demonstrate the expertise, the support and the peace of mind they bring to their clients.

BIBA 2019 - A peony for my thoughts!

07 May 2019

May brings together two of the most interesting events in my calendar year – BIBA and the Chelsea flower show.

I always get excited about BIBA as it brings together so many industry friends and colleagues, along with promising opportunities for schemes growth – my area of insurance. Being a keen gardener, I have equally high expectations for the Chelsea flower show. Crazy as it sounds, there are actually many more similarities between insurance the two events than you might think!

The truth about insurance branch networks

29 Apr 2019

Authored by Jon Walker, Executive Managing Director, AXA Commercial

Branch networks are crucial to the distribution of insurance. Industry and press comments usually focus on branch closures and branch openings. But the quality of the service you provide has nothing to do with the number of your branches. It is about striking the right balance between proximity and expertise.

SME Disaster Masterclass

04 Mar 2019

Brexit chaos – motorways at a standstill - Labour splits – Tories split too, for good measure – urgent climate change issues – EU in financial crisis – productivity down, crime up – storms increase in intensity – terrorism – major flooding events – giant radioactive lizards roaming the home counties...

Disasters (especially fictional ones) come in all shapes and sizes, but they all have something in common: none were anticipated by the people most affected and it almost always comes as an unpleasant surprise.

Accusation of insurer/broker cyber insurance ‘scaremongering ’is wrong

31 Jan 2019

As someone who has reviewed 30 different cyber insurance policies for Cyber|Decider, (an on-line cyber policy wording comparison tool), I was surprised by the comments contained in a recent Insurance Age article.

Brokers and insurers were accused of ‘scaremongering’ to make companies buy cyber policies. Even more surprising was the suggestion that instead of buying a specific policy, businesses should look to extend their existing policies to cover their cyber risk, for example extending the professional indemnity policy to cover damages for third party data breaches.

My review of 2018

13 Dec 2018

In a guest blog for youTalk-insurance Simon McGinn, General Manager, Commercial and Personal at Allianz UK shares his thoughts about 2018 and takes a look at what’s in store for the year ahead

During 2018 we saw another busy period of legislative, political and socio-economic change.  As an industry we needed to respond to major developments which impacted the insurance sector, such as General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) and the progress of the Civil Liability Bill through Parliament, to name a few.

InsureTrek 2018 - Memories to last a lifetime

01 Oct 2018

Michelle Neary, Head of Marketing Communications at Covéa Insurance shares her InsureTrek adventure for Insurance United Against Dementia.

Insuretrek18 brings to mind one of my favourite quotes from Nelson Mandela which says “ it always seems impossible, until it’s done”.  For me and the 24 fellow insurance types who took part in the recent Insuretrek18, there were moments where we all really thought we couldn’t go on, but with a positive mindset, a lot of laughter and the spirit of friendship, we got through it!

InsurTech – Future or Fantasy

06 Sep 2018

NMU Executive Director, Nick Limb, talks about his love for technology but scepticism of InsurTech without human support

I love technology!

As anyone who knows me would steadfastly confirm, I’m a total tech geek. Anything that could be remotely described as electronic gadgetry will be in my possession and if it comes with an Apple, Android or Amazon sticker all the better. I have them all and constantly update to the latest versions whenever they are released.
