The Insurance Charities asks sector to support colleagues in need

The Insurance Charities is calling for insurance employees to lend their support to its annual awareness-raising campaign taking place on Wednesday 24th June 2020.

The day will focus on encouraging the insurance community to help spread the word about the practical and financial support available to colleagues in times of need.

In 2019 The Insurance Charities, who gives over £1.7million each year, reached 76,000 insurance employees thanks to the 245 companies that took part in the initiative. This reach was broadened further through the help of individual supporters across the UK and Ireland.

For the first time the Charity will deliver a free webinar to coincide with the campaign, giving attendees the chance to hear from its Chief Executive, board members and beneficiaries and ask questions about all aspects of the Charity’s work. To book your place at the webinar visit this link https://www.theinsurancecharities.org.uk/insurance-charities-webinar-now-booking/

This year the Charity is particularly keen to reach HR professionals working in insurance, and is encouraging supporters to share its guidance for HR teams with those who are supporting employees in the industry.

Insurance Charities Trustee and Board member Josh Brekenfeld based at Aspen, said: “We are the only charity in the UK and Ireland solely supporting those working across the whole insurance sector and have done so for over a century. We can help transform insurance people’s lives for the better and provide a lifeline to support them with whatever difficulties they and their families are experiencing. Without people coming together to raise awareness, we couldn’t support as many colleagues as we do. Over the coming months our help may be needed more than ever.”

In response to the Covid-19 crisis, the Chartered Insurance Institute’s (CII) Education and Training Trust, in partnership with The Insurance Charities, has recently launched a new fund to support those in hardship with their professional development costs. The scheme, which is open to anyone working in insurance or financial planning, will cover the full cost of relevant training for those eligible, who have been furloughed, made redundant or are concerned about their future.

For anyone in the industry wanting to support the Awareness Day they can find out more and download a Supporter Toolkit to help them and their employer get involved.

About Charity

The Insurance Charities is the only charity supporting current and former insurance employees and their families across the UK and Ireland.

How do we help?

The charity transforms insurance people’s lives for the better by providing a lifeline to support them with whatever difficulties they may be facing such as redundancy, poor health, domestic abuse, and tragedy.

We can help people throughout their career and beyond with one off and ongoing financial and/or practical support for as long as it’s needed. In 2022/2023 we gave out over £1.3 million to those experiencing financial hardship to help pay for things such as household appliances, school uniform, funeral costs, rehabilitation, and property adaptations. We also work with other organisations such as Aware in Ireland, Shelter UK, and Alzheimer’s Society to provide practical support where needed. Through these fantastic charities we can help those experiencing mild depression and anxiety, assist those with housing concerns, and those affected by dementia.

Did you know?

• It doesn’t matter what role you’ve had working in the sector

• Your application will be treated in the strictest of confidence

• You don’t need to be a member of a professional body or association to access support

• Both working and non-working people can apply

• The charity also supports dependants of insurance employees (past and present) such as children and partners.

We are keen to talk to employers across the industry about how we could support their colleagues so encourage people to get in touch to find out more.
