RSA demonstrates commitment to menopause support through engagement with Annelise Dodds MP

RSA, one of the UK's largest insurers, welcomed Anneliese Dodds MP, the Shadow Women and Equalities Secretary and Chair of the Labour Party, along with members of her party, to its Liverpool office to discuss RSA's significant efforts in championing menopause support in the workplace.

Anneliese Dodds MP has been instrumental in driving Women and Equalities policies and initiatives. In February 2023, her party unveiled a new policy requiring large employers to develop and implement a Menopause Action Plan, outlining their support for employees experiencing menopausal symptoms.  RSA colleagues central to the creation of the insurer’s menopause guidance were also in attendance, including Yasemin Dogu, Chief Auditor and Executive Sponsor of the RSA Families Employee Resource Group, Gemma Jackson, UK&I Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, as well as several RSA menopause champions.

This event underscores RSA's ongoing commitment to supporting colleagues going through the menopause. In October 2022, RSA achieved accreditation as a menopause-friendly employer and, as part of this accreditation process, developed guidelines for colleagues and leaders on discussing menopause in the workplace and providing information on where to seek support.

Other initiatives introduced include the creation of a team of 40 menopause advocates and champions who received training to build their knowledge of the menopause, monthly menopause support cafes to facilitate open discussions among colleagues, and the launch of menopause and andropause absence analysis to assess its impact on colleagues.

Gemma Jackson, RSA UK&I Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion said:

"We’re delighted to have the opportunity to discuss this crucial work with Anneliese Dodds MP. It underscores the importance of recognising menopause as a genuine concern that impacts individuals not only in the workplace but also their partners at home, requiring the need for comprehensive education and awareness efforts. We look forward to continued discussions with senior politicians to champion this important cause and we’re committed to serving as a hub within the insurance industry, listening, and learning from the experiences of other insurers."

In addition to its focus on menopause support, RSA is committed to creating a safe, inclusive workplace and has implemented various policies to enhance support for all colleagues. Last month, the insurer achieved membership in the Group for Autism, Insurance, Investment, and Neurodiversity (GAIN) last month, showing support for neurodiverse individuals in the Insurance, Investment, and related Financial Services Industry. RSA introduced a domestic abuse policy to support colleagues in 2021, which includes paid leave for those who need to deal with issues at home. The insurer also launched a carers' leave policy in January this year to assist colleagues with significant caregiving responsibilities for dependents.
