Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, appoints Joep van der Bijl to the role of Multi Buyer Trade Credit (MBTC) Lead Underwriter, Continental Europe. Van der Bijl will report to Jesse van Cleef, Head of MBTC Europe - Financial Risk Solutions (FRS) and will be based in the Hague. His new role is effective immediately.

LSM has been writing MBTC in North America since 2019. Since launching the product in European and London markets in 2022, LSM’s FRS team is bolstering its offering in these key regions. Van der Bijl’s hire means LSM has another dedicated and experienced underwriter in Europe, boosting LSM’s continued growth in the MBTC space and expanding its geographic footprint.

“We are very pleased to welcome Joep to Liberty. His market experience, leadership and network will be key as we enhance our services and grow our business in the region. While our MBTC offering is fairly new to the European market, Liberty's history in trade credit is longstanding. Through careful, sustainable growth, we will continue to leverage this experience, delivered by our team of local experts to provide value for our clients and broking partners”, said Jesse van Cleef.

Van der Bijl has 10 years of experience in Trade Credit in various underwriting roles at Atradius and most recently was Manager Special Products Netherlands, Belgium & Nordic countries.
