International growth of the ARAG Group takes another leap forward

The international growth of the ARAG Group has taken another leap forward with the expansion of our Canadian operation through the acquisition of DAS Legal Protection Inc. which was formerly part of the Munich Re-owned ERGO Group.

Founded in 2010, the Toronto-based legal expense insurance specialist reported premiums under management of almost €20 million in 2019, with a product portfolio comprising legal protection products for families, landlords and small businesses. The existing Canadian staff of DAS has been retained by ARAG.

The ARAG Group launched its Canadian subsidiary, ARAG Services Corporation, in 2016. Also a managing general agent based in Toronto, ARAG offers an innovative and comprehensive range of legal expenses insurance products and legal services for brokers, underwriting agents and insurers in Canada, targeting businesses, families and landlords alike. ARAG’s Canadian products are underwritten by HDI Global Specialty SE.

ARAG launched business operations in Australia and acquired the DAS operations in the Republic of Ireland, in 2019, bringing the total number of countries in which it is currently active to 19. Both parties agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
