Swinton Insurance has announced a partnership with Insurance United Against Dementia (IUAD) that will invite customers buying a car insurance policy online to donate £1 to Alzheimer’s Society.

IUAD has so far raised £5.5 million to fund crucial research and support services since the campaign was launched in September 2017.

This announcement is the first time an insurance provider has partnered with Alzheimer’s Society to broaden the fundraising initiative to include consumers.

Thanks to pro bono work by Sputnik and development using CDL’s Strata APIs this is also the first time a personal lines broker has been able to use the platform to directly collect money for charities from customers during a quote journey.

Atlanta, which owns Swinton Insurance, will further support Alzheimer’s Society with a programme of fundraising activities, education and awareness and plans to offer Dementia Friends information sessions to all 2,500 colleagues later this year.

The business will also make a donation to Alzheimer’s Society from the Atlanta Community Fund.

Atlanta CEO Ian Donaldson said: “Three years ago I was honoured to be part of the InsureTrek18 which raised over £100,000 for IUAD. The experience really brought home how much more there is to do to help the 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK and their families.  Dementia will affect the majority of our families at some point in our lives and we must do what we can to support those affected by the condition and their carers”.

“IUAD has been a wonderful example of what the insurance industry can achieve when we pull together. I’m really proud to be committing further to the campaign and I'll be encouraging my fellow personal lines brokers to follow suit and develop charitable donation platforms in the future.”

Chris Wallace, Executive Director, QBE and Chair of the Insurance United Against Dementia (IUAD) board, said: “We are delighted with this new initiative from Swinton Insurance to invite customers to donate to Alzheimer’s Society to broaden the reach of fundraising. Swinton Insurance are setting the standard for the industry and we’re proud to be partnering with them. Thanks to initiatives and partnerships like this, Alzheimer’s Society and IUAD will be able continue to support people with dementia, their family and carers when they need it the most.”

Sputnik Digital Managing Director Andy Nicol said: “It was an honour to work with Atlanta to make this great idea a reality for Swinton and Alzheimer’s Society”.

CEO of CDL Nigel Phillips said: “To be able to work with Atlanta to leverage the power of the systems and services we offer and to be a part of such a great venture was a perfect fit for CDL’s cultural values. We look forward to continuing to work with Atlanta to bring new ideas to the market place”.
