NIG Risk Control Surveyor Apprentices’ first site visits

NIG-Risk-Control-Surveyor-Apprentices’-first-site-visits

Since the last article about our Risk Control Surveyor Apprentices, the cohort have been busy settling into their rotations across NIG. Three of our apprentices are currently working within trading regions learning all things underwriting. The other three are well underway with their first rotation in our survey support team. They have been scheduling surveys and liaising with brokers and clients on outstanding risk improvements.

In this article, we will be spotlighting one of the apprentices who attended her first site visit in February. We spoke to Elisha about her experience working in the field.

Elisha’s first site visit was in Ipswich accompanied by her surveying mentor, Stephen Mowbray. They attended a variety of properties, including a grade II listed farmhouse, a warehouse, and a car dealership.

“Going out on the road and watching Stephen was really beneficial as I learnt so much in a short space of time. For example, I learnt that electrical checks for commercial properties should be every five years whereas residential is every ten and that unoccupied properties only have FLEA cover.”

“Stephen was an amazing surveyor buddy, and he made the trip really enjoyable. It looks like I may be going back out on the road as soon as next month around Norfolk so I’m looking forward to going out in the field again!”

The apprentices have their first Chartered Insurance Institute Insurance, Legal and Regulatory (IF1) exams in March, before moving onto their second rotation across NIG at the start of April. We’ll be following and reporting regularly on their apprenticeship journey.

We wish them the best of luck in their exams!
