BIBA 2019: A day in the life of Tokio Marine HCC's Colin Brown
Colin Brown, Head of Sales and Business Development for Tokio Marine HCC's Professional Risks division (based in their London office) was in Manchester for BIBA 2019 – here’s what his day looked like:
08:30 – Breakfast
After starting the day with a hearty breakfast, it’s off to the Manchester Central Convention Complex to see the Tokio Marine HCC stand while meeting old and new broker faces. Today, I am getting behind the camera to talk about my role and team at Tokio Marine HCC, and the changing shape of the insurance market.
10:00 – Networking
One of the most important things to do at BIBA is networking! I’ve been in the industry for over twenty-five years and fifteen of those years have been at Tokio Marine HCC, which means I am an “old” face in the market! The growth of our Professional Risks division which encompasses various business divisions including Professional Indemnity (PI), Liability, Management Liability (ML), and Cyber for the SME space has grown significantly over the past ten years. I have great pride in discussing our strong results to our broker network while continually building new and exciting relationships. Relationship building is best done face to face and where better to do it then at the most important event in the insurance calendar!
13:15 – The digital age of insurance Fringe Session
This session was led by Broker Solutions and Applied Systems. The discussion was based around the topic of digital technology and the impact it will have on the insurance market. Technology innovation is undeniably impacting the way that insurers and brokers operate, so it is vital that companies start to look at the market from an InsurTech perspective. Recently I was featured in Insurance Age, talking about the future of PI. We are living in the Fourth Industrial Revolution and it is constantly changing the way we live, work and relate to one another, so the cover that insurers offer needs to evolve too. It was great to hear a “hot topic” discussed in such detail by industry experts to expand further on my understanding of the topic.
15:30 - Filming
As a company we believe in educating our brokers and providing them with information that will help them do their job easily. During my time at Tokio Marine HCC we have continuously built relationships with our brokers and have shaped to meet their needs, for example setting up online portals. Today, I spoke about: where the company is heading, what are the significant changes that are taking place in the SME, PI space and how technology will impact the way insurers operate in the future. Having the BIBA “buzz” in the background has definitely inspired me to get behind the camera!
18:00 – BIBA ends for another year
BIBA has officially finished for the day, and now the evening begins! I’m heading off to some industry events tonight, to meet some more faces that I missed today. I’ll be back at the stand tomorrow for the second whirlwind day!
