The Insurance Charities calls for industry to support colleagues in need

The-Insurance-Charities-awareness-week

The Insurance Charities is calling for insurance employees to lend their support to its annual awareness-raising campaign taking place between 21 and 25 June 2021.

The week will focus on encouraging the insurance community to help spread the word about the practical and financial support available to current and former insurance colleagues in times of need.

For the first time the week-long campaign will also focus on the critical area of wellbeing. The Charity will highlight some of the ways it enhances the physical, emotional, and social wellbeing of those in the industry in addition to its core work of alleviating financial hardship. In the last year alone, the organisation has awarded over £912k to support those struggling within our industry.

Josh Brekenfeld, Corporate Development and Communications Director at Aspen Insurance and Insurance Charities Trustee said: “We are the only charity in the UK and Ireland solely supporting those working across the whole insurance sector and have done so for over a century. We can help transform insurance people’s lives for the better and provide a lifeline to support them with whatever difficulties they and their families are experiencing. Without people coming together to raise awareness, we couldn’t support as many colleagues as we do. After a difficult twelve months for all of us, our help may be needed more than ever.”

For anyone in the industry wanting to support the campaign they can download a free Supporter Toolkit packed with resources to help them and their employer get involved. People can also follow the #ICAW hashtag in the run-up and throughout the week.

About Charity

The Insurance Charities is the only charity supporting current and former insurance employees and their families across the UK and Ireland.

How do we help?

The charity transforms insurance people’s lives for the better by providing a lifeline to support them with whatever difficulties they may be facing such as redundancy, poor health, domestic abuse, and tragedy.

We can help people throughout their career and beyond with one off and ongoing financial and/or practical support for as long as it’s needed. In 2022/2023 we gave out over £1.3 million to those experiencing financial hardship to help pay for things such as household appliances, school uniform, funeral costs, rehabilitation, and property adaptations. We also work with other organisations such as Aware in Ireland, Shelter UK, and Alzheimer’s Society to provide practical support where needed. Through these fantastic charities we can help those experiencing mild depression and anxiety, assist those with housing concerns, and those affected by dementia.

Did you know?

• It doesn’t matter what role you’ve had working in the sector

• Your application will be treated in the strictest of confidence

• You don’t need to be a member of a professional body or association to access support

• Both working and non-working people can apply

• The charity also supports dependants of insurance employees (past and present) such as children and partners.

We are keen to talk to employers across the industry about how we could support their colleagues so encourage people to get in touch to find out more.
