RSA becomes accredited Menopause Friendly Employer

RSA Insurance is pleased to announce it has now become an accredited menopause friendly employer, 12 months after announcing its commitment to reaching and attaining this standard.

Menopause Friendly accreditation is a recognised standard of achievement, one which satisfies a highly qualified independent panel of judges and shows that an organisation has gone above and beyond to change the lived experience of those working through menopause.

To be truly menopause friendly, employers must put in place policies alongside training and awareness protocols for all colleagues, address both physical and mental wellbeing considerations and be prepared to make practical changes to the workplace environment.

In order to become accredited, RSA had to meet a strict set of criteria and demonstrate a number of actions which included cultural changes, holding open forum menopause cafes and lunch and learn sessions, opening up conversations, listening to what support employees needed, providing Leader training, evaluating success and introducing menopause champions and advocates.

Helen Simpson, HR Advice Leader at RSA said: “We’re absolutely delighted to become an accredited employer, but it is important to remember that the work doesn’t stop here. There have been so many highlights, but one that stands out, is how it has felt to create a safe space for individuals to share their experiences around their menopause symptoms and the positive energy this has created.  Since starting this journey we have spoken to hundreds of people, many who have or were struggling and not sure where to turn.

“Opening up the conversation, recognising that the menopause is actually a “real thing” has been totally heart-warming and humbling. It has been great to see how passionate people are around this subject – and also how many men have become engaged in education and awareness – wanting to support people in their teams experiencing the menopause and also how this is impacting their partners at home.”

Sue Fish, Menopause Friendly, Independent Panel member commented on the accreditation application: “We’re delighted to see RSA achieve Menopause Friendly Accreditation. An excellent application and demonstrates their commitment with their programme integrated into the Diversity and Inclusion strategy and with strong leadership support. Very comprehensive and inclusive of guidance documents and advice about talking about menopause sensitively and supportively. Excellent clear and engaging training materials plus menopause champions and advocates. Backed up with a great variety of engagement tools. Well done to everyone involved.”
