How QBE's Foundation helped deliver Special Days to seriously ill adults

20 years ago Bob and Megs Wilson launched Willow following the death of their daughter, aged just 31. They are the only national charity which provides Special Days to seriously ill young adults aged between 16 and 40. Since 1999, they have delivered more than 16,000 unforgettable Special Days.

Cameron lives with Duchenne's Muscular Dystrophy and is cared for at home with his mum as his primary carer. Cameron’s huge love of animals meant he chose to spend his Special Day at Whipsnade Zoo. Willow took care of everything and did an amazing job of arranging a day for Cameron and his family, that gave them some much needed quality time together. The family had the opportunity to get up close with some of the animals - the highlight being seeing a Wolverine, an animal Cameron has always wanted to see!

“When Cameron heard about his Special Day he was so excited, it gave us all such a huge boost, something that we could all look forward to and focus on. Cameron’s Special Day to Whipsnade Zoo created many magical memories for us all and it gave us amazing quality family time together.” Cam’s mum, Lisa.

The Foundation donated Willow a grant of £10,000 so they can continue to give young adults a chance to enjoy a day or weekend of their choice - giving them a chance to forget about the devastating effects of living with a serious illness for a short time, relax and have fun.

In 2018 QBE provided 80 grants to charities.  If you feel your charity could also benefit financially from QBE’s support, please visit their Foundation page and put in a grant application.
