MS Amlin Underwriting Ltd appoints Andrew Carrier as CUO

The newly created role forms part of the business’s transformation plan

MS Amlin Underwriting Limited (MS AUL), the Lloyd’s (re)insurer, today announces the appointment of Andrew Carrier as Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO), subject to regulatory approval. Carrier will take up the role on 7^th September and report directly to Tom Clementi, CEO of MS AUL.

In the newly created role of CUO, Carrier will be responsible for managing all of MS AUL’s underwriting business, including the syndicate’s Reinsurance and Specialty Insurance divisions. Carrier will review MS AUL’s underwriting portfolio and strategy, with a view to repositioning the business, where necessary, for future success. The appointment is a further step forward in MS AUL’s ambition, supported by its ultimate parent MS&AD Group, to transform the business into a highly successful specialty (re)insurer.

As part of the ongoing simplification of MS AUL’s operating model, the previous Co-CUO management structure of MS AUL will be dissolved and the Co-CUOs for Specialty Insurance, Andrew Wright and Mark Clements, along with the CUO for Reinsurance, Phil Wooldridge, will step down from their roles on 30^th September 2020.

We have removed group and legacy MS Amlin plc structures, making our insurance companies leaner, stand-alone entities, strengthened our MS AUL governance and increased the expertise of our independent NEDs with the appointments of Johan Slabbert and Martin Hudson announced in May.
