IGI women help to break Guinness World Record
International General Insurance (IGI) has helped the not-for-profit organisation Equal Playing Field (EPF) break a Guinness World Record for the most players to appear in a five-a-side football match, with 822 players from 65 countries taking part in its Festival of Football for 69 hours of continuous play.
There are many parallels between gender inequality in insurance and sports like football. In both disciplines gender inequality exists - men out-number, out-represent and out-earn the women.
Last year, IGI sponsored EPF’s Festival of Football, which took place Lyon, France at the same time as the Women’s FIFA World Cup from June 28 - July 1 2019, which aimed to highlight gender disparity in sport via the beautiful game.
Led by IGI’s Head of PR and Marketing Aaida Abu Jaber, IGI sent an all-female team from the insurance industry to the games to shed light on gender disparity in athletics and business, and to do something remarkable and inspirational to showcase female talent.
The goal of IGI helping to break this Guinness world record is to show the incredible diversity of women’s football. The same goes for the insurance industry. Empowering women at all levels in the workplace and providing them with the right skills to become leaders are imperative to a successful business in the 21st century. At the same time, women and girls have been on the sidelines of sport for years. Diversity and inclusion issues in the workplace are finally getting the attention they deserve, with the support of both men and women in the industry.
