BIBA launches National Young Broker Committee

The British Insurance Brokers’ Association has launched its National Young Broker Committee. This committee will comprise of the current Young Broker ambassadors but will take a more formal role by advising the main board on what current issues younger professionals are facing in the industry.

As part of BIBA’s diversity and inclusion initiative the committee will be encouraged to take a lead on advising and counselling the BIBA board, representing those in the industry that are 35 and under.

As well as being part of the committee, the Young Brokers will be offered a mentor from the main board. This relationship will be instrumental to the governance of BIBA whilst also bridging the gap between those who have an established career in the industry and those who are just starting up.

Courtney Barnes, the Chair of the BIBA National Young Broker Committee said: “I’ve always enjoyed being involved with BIBA from a Young Broker standpoint. This new committee will not only allow the younger voices of the industry to be heard but will also help us learn from those who have established themselves within the industry.”

BIBA’s National Young Broker Committee will sit alongside the other committees and advisory boards within BIBA. With the aim of providing market intelligence on emerging trends within their market segment and to assist in creating BIBA’s response to those trends.

They will also be able to feed into areas of research for BIBA to invest in further benefits to their younger members.

Steve White, BIBA CEO said: “It is now more important than ever to listen the younger professionals within the industry. I am looking forward to having another perspective on key industry issues to help inform BIBA’s strategic direction in the future. The Board and I hope that the mentor/mentee relationship will work as a reverse mentoring opportunity and something that we can all learn from.”
