Allianz supports the final of Ocean Hackathon 2021

Organised by the Campus Mondial de la Mer, Ocean Hackathon aims to bring out innovative maritime products and services.

Over one weekend (5-7 November 2021), teams in 15 cities will take up challenges on how to protect the oceans and promote a sustainable maritime economy. Topics will include pollution, fishing, conservation, coastal environment, sailing and ecotourism, among others. In Cardiff, for instance, two teams will look at offshore energy and submarine cables.

People from various backgrounds are encouraged to take part in the 122 challenges available across the world, including marine biology but also data analytics, communication, IT, geography, web design, economy and other academic and technical areas.

One winner from each city will be selected to take part in the final in December in Brest (France), which is organised with the support of Allianz Group.

Barbara Karuth-Zelle, COO of Allianz Group, said: “Allianz Group is strongly committed to protecting the oceans and increasing awareness about their importance for the climate, biodiversity and a healthy planet. By supporting the Ocean Hackathon® 2021, Allianz wants to actively contribute to climate protection and, more generally, to sustainability and decarbonization. By being part of the Ocean Hackathon® as sponsor with Allianz colleagues from around the globe taking part in this event, we can really make a difference. We can link sustainability to our business, and we can use our data expertise to contribute to the creation of a global ocean science needed to support the sustainable development of our shared oceans.”
