Paul Tombs Head of SME Zurich UK- Post BIBA Blog

The two days we spend with Brokers at BIBA are invaluable every year, but especially for us in 2019 when we have made so many positive steps forward with our new SME proposition.

The focus this year has been taking action and delivering on the feedback we’ve had from Brokers on our products, the platforms we use and how we trade.

In the first five months of this year we’ve built and launched eight new and enhanced SME products. These new products are available on Zurich Online, our new and improved broker trading platform that will replace ZTrade and are also available now on Acturis open market making us more accessible for more brokers.

It was great to talk to Brokers getting their feedback face to face and seeing their positive reaction to Zurich Online in real time.

BIBA isn’t just about our products and services, for us this year we were able to reinforce two things.  Firstly, our industry leading 99% claims paid brand campaign, it’s been great to see this message all over the UK and especially Manchester. Nothing beats walking to Manchester Central on Wednesday morning and spotting our ad on the side of Deansgate Tower!

Secondly, our commitment to improving Inclusion in our industry by featuring our Inclusive Behaviours Pledge on the wall of our stand. Co led with Lloyd’s, Tulsi Naidu our UK CEO pioneered an industry wide commitment to end discrimination in the Insurance industry and as an organisation Zurich is incredibly proud to be part of this.

Over 120 organisations are now signed up, it’s an exciting time to be part of our industry with such a strong commitment to ending discrimination. If you’d like to find out more, I would encourage you to take a look at the pledge HERE.

With so much going on I missed the “Wax on, wax off” Insurance United Against Dementia challenge, but well done to everyone involved supporting and raising money for such a fantastic cause, though the brave volunteers may have to wait a little while before donning shorts this summer.

It was also nice of Boris Johnson to catapult BIBA’s name into national headline news with his “of course I’m going to go for it” retort in response to a question on replacing Theresa May as Prime Minister. The extra PR actually helped me explain, to a non-insurance friend, where I’d been for two days, when their initial response was why you are going to see Justin “Bieber”…

Every year BIBA provides us with a great opportunity not only to celebrate with our Brokers and thank them for their continued work with us, but also to take stock of how far we’ve come and also get excited for our next phase of developments. We’re certainly heading into this summer hungry to trade SME business and bring more Zurich products to the market. SMEs and Brokers work hard to build their businesses and we work just as hard to protect them.
