Higos acquires Mellerup’s in third deal this year

Higos Insurance Services (Higos), has acquired Mellerup’s (General Insurances) Ltd for an undisclosed fee. Mellerup’s specialises in shooting and field sports insurance and is based in Dursley, Gloucestershire.

The deal is the third Higos has completed since it was acquired by Global Risk Partners (GRP) in March 2017. (Courtenay Insurance and Colin Fear Ltd were the others). Mellerup’s was founded by Arthur Mellerup in 1974, and has a strong tradition for farm and estate insurance as well as shooting.

Higos managing director Ian Gosden said: “We are delighted to welcome Nick Fulford and his team to the Higos and GRP family.  The field sports scheme operated by Mellerup’s adds to our diverse portfolio of products, allowing us to expand our farming and rural life offering to our clients throughout the South and South West.

Nick Fulford, managing director of Mellerup’s, said: “Higos offered us a golden opportunity to create value from our life’s work, as well as the means to grow the business in future. All our team are staying with us as we move across. We are excited by our future prospects and the new propositions and enhanced service for our clients.”

Mike Bruce, GRP’s CEO, Retail, welcomed the announcement and said the acquisition of Mellerup’s is the latest in a series of planned deals by Higos to build out GRP’s UK hub strategy in the South West.

“This acquisition is a classic example of GRP’s hub strategy in action. Ian’s [Gosden] deep ‘on-the-ground’ knowledge of the South West enables Higos to identify quality local brokers with good management teams and specialist knowledge who want to be part of something bigger and better.”
