Home and Legacy: Could inclusive landlord policies change the way landlords use lettings agents?

Hi – I’m Ade Ewington, Underwriting Director at Home & Legacy. This year we improved and refreshed our range of landlord insurance.

Our Ultra Landlord policy now offers the options of a really inclusive cover – with an extended range of optional extras for landlords. And we believe that top level policies like Ultra Landlord could actually be game-changing for the lettings industry because they will provide many of the services currently provided to landlords by letting agents, but at a very reasonable price. 

With our Emergency Property Assistance option for example, when a tenant experiences a situation like a burst pipe or power failure, they can simply call a 24 hour hotline and access the help they need from a professional tradesperson in a timely fashion. Gone are the days where they need to wait for the lettings office to open before they can get things moving. Emergencies can get resolved and this benefits the tenant, the landlord – and saves work for the agent.  

Landlords can also save themselves hassle and expense when it comes to procuring the necessary certificates for gas safety and energy performance, by simply adding these options to their Ultra Landlord insurance policy. Why bother organising these separately? The certificates can actually work out cheaper than purchasing as standalone add-ons through a letting agent.

Ultra-Landlord also offers options for Rent Default Protection and Legal Expenses to provide what we believe is a truly comprehensive landlord package.

Home & Legacy re-launches Landlord insurance product range

I’m Ade Ewington, Underwriting and Markets Director from Home & Legacy.

Did you know, we do landlord insurance in addition to our high net worth household and motor lines?  And we’ve recently refreshed and re-launched our range. You’ll notice the policies look different; the language is clearer and easier to follow for customers.

We still have two tiers of cover – Prestige and Ultra, but we’ve studied the market to make sure the policies we’re offering to you and your landlord customers are absolutely robust.

Prestige Landlord is our entry level cover, aimed at any of your landlord customers looking for a good, solid, standard level of cover. It covers all the perils you’d expect and now includes employer’s liability as standard. And because it’s from a trusted provider, landlords get excellent service like a dedicated handler when they need to make a claim. That’s something they just frankly wouldn’t get from a standard, direct landlord policy.

Ultra is our flagship policy aimed at landlords who really want the reassurance of an inclusive, exemplary level of cover. You’ll find generous limits and top rated covers on this product, like a 90 day unoccupancy grace period and legal expenses cover as standard, as well as a range of optional extras like accidental damage by tenants, rent default protection and landlord’s Emergency Property Assistance.

On both products we offer a multi-policy discount for portfolio landlords.

Home & Legacy - Review of 2014 and what to look out for in 2015 video

Hello and Happy New Year to you all. My name is Barry O’Neill from Home & Legacy, and I’d like to take this chance to thank all our brokers for your support over the last year.

I am sure you all know that the market in 2014 was particularly competitive, and I am aware that you have more options than ever as to where you place your business so it was really pleasing for me to see our conversion rates improving as the year progressed. That tells me that we have been more successful in delivering to you competitive products in terms of cover and price. Thank you for recognising that in the support many of you gave to us last year

Your recognition of our service has also been reflected in industry surveys - we came 6th in the Insurance Times Broker Survey and we were also nominated for an Underwriting Service Award. Thank you for taking the time to respond to those surveys.

Ultimately we are rightly judged by our clients on our claims service and I am delighted that clients who have had a claim have rated our performance with a Net Promoter Score of  66.2, which is a great result which I believe justifies your confidence in recommending us to your clients.

So what’s next for Home & Legacy in 2015? Well firstly, in quarter one, we will release our new and improved Landlord polices. We have taken what is already a successful product and improved it.

Furthermore, we have listened to broker feedback and we will be making some significant changes to our Motor policy wordings in the 2nd quarter.
