Alesco appoints John Smith to its energy division

Alesco Risk Management Services (Alesco) has announced that John Smith will be joining as a Partner in its energy division.

John will provide technical account management and advisory support to Alesco business units and clients in the Middle East, Asia, North America, South America and Australasia; support major onshore and offshore construction projects; raise Alesco’s profile within the UK independent oil and gas sector; and lead the development and marketing of new products. He joins the London office on 1st November 2016 and will report to Derek Thrumble – Partner in Risk Consulting.  

John brings a vast amount of experience to Alesco. He joins from BG (formerly part of British Gas) where he was Head of Insurable Risk and responsible for managing the BG Captive insurer based in Singapore. In his time at BG, John worked extensively on the operational and construction insurance programmes for BG assets, primarily in India, Egypt and Trinidad, and the Group’s LNG operations and oil shipping activities. He joined British Gas in 1997 having previously spent 20 years as an insurance broker, latterly as Divisional Director of Energy at Alexander Howden. John also held roles with J H Minet and Leslie & Godwin (both now part of Aon).
